Evil nor good only the path of the Open Palm or the Closed Fist,
For this week I played more of Jade Empire, one of BioWare's early games now avaliable on Steam for digital download. The game is a refreshing reminder of what drew me into the BioWare games. Over the years, although BioWare games have always allowed you to choice either the moral or unmoral decisions I feel like especially in the Jade Empire there is not a way to play where you can be shades of grey. Already I am starting to become blocked from doing some quest just because I have a high open palm rating. I do not remember any other BioWare game in which depending on your morality meter prevented players from taking on particular quests. It's a interesting approach to branching narrative, on one hand the plot itself is linear yet how the that story is told can be told differently just by the character's personality.
As always the story playthrough of the Witcher 2 continues, I am now now well into Chapter 2 of the game and still enjoying the story as well as the combat. Contrasting Jade Empire's narrative design, the Witcher 2 forces players to choose the narrative from two completely seperate branches, I'll have to finish both playthrough to see for myself just how different the essentially two narratives are. But, that I think is an approach is bold and gives fans a reason to play the game again, while also experience the game completely differently the second time around.
